The Love Frequency: the transformative power of music and sound

This special event looking at music's positive impact on wellbeing is a bespoke collaboration between Edinburgh Music Lovers (EML) and the Edinburgh Wellbeing Festival.

In this unique event, we bring together electronic music producer Felix Buxton of Grammy and Brit Award-winning Basement Jaxx, Scotland's Got Soul Choir and Dr Katie Avery of Reid School of Music to explore the transformative power of music.

Felix, who has studied the healing power of sound, has created a bespoke piece of music for the choir to perform to which is based on the 'Love Frequency', a specific type of sound frequency said to promote feelings of calm, healing and love.

The Got Soul Choir was set up to bring people together and out of isolation. They have performed with many leading names in music including Take That, Gareth Malone and Mica Paris among others.

As well as producing numerous hits with Basement Jaxx and touring the world as a DJ, Felix Buxton makes music as 'Celestial Being’, is involved with Peace One Day and is a patron of the London Ballet Company.

His interest in the healing properties of sound has seen him recently speak at conferences and creating choral work with the London Contemporary Voices.

Dr Katie Avery's core research interest is musical learning, which she explores from the perspectives of music psychology, music pedagogy and music neuroscience.

Edinburgh Music Lovers was set up by Jim Byers who is a big believer that music can play a powerful role in our wellbeing and mental health.
